Introduction: Vitamins play an important role in improving the performance, immune system, and growth of birds. In recent years, due to the increase of the price of synthetic vitamin supplements and also due to the limitation of the use of commercial antioxidants, plant-based antioxidant sources have been considered in the poultry industry. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of herbal vitamin E supplements on production traits, humoral immune responses, and some blood parameters of broiler chickens.
Material and method: In a completely randomized design 480 Arian broiler chickens (one-day-old, mixed sexes) were allocated to four treatments, four replicates, and 30 birds in each replicate. Experimental treatments included: 1. basal diet (Contains 25 IU of synthetic vitamin E), 2. basal diet + 25 IU synthetic vitamin E, 3. basal diet + 50 mg herbal vitamin E supplement, and 4. basal diet + 100 mg herbal vitamin E Supplement. In this experiment, weight gain, feed intake, and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were measured. On day 40, two birds per replicate were randomly selected, weighed, and killed, and then the entire empty carcass and parts of the carcass including breast, thigh, neck back, and wings, abdominal fat, and some organs including heart and spleen were weighed. One day 40 days, to measure the concentration of total protein, albumin, triglyceride, cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and the activity of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and alkaline phosphatase enzymes, blood was collected from each replicate of 4 birds. On day 33 to measure antibody titer against Newcastle disease and influenza, 1 ml SRBC was injected into 4 birds in each repetition.
Result and discussion: The results showed that the experimental treatments had no effects on feed intake, body weight, and FCR. Also, carcass characteristics including carcass percentage, breast, thigh, back, and neck percentage, abdominal fat, heart, spleen, and blood parameters were not affected by experimental treatments. Antibody titer against sheep red blood cell injection had no significant effect.
Conclusion: In total, according to the recommendation of commercial strains, the requirement of vitamin E is 50 IU, therefore in case of providing 25 IU of synthetic vitamin E in the diet, it is possible to provide the rest of the need up to 50 IU by using the herbal vitamin E supplement (at the rate of 50 mg per kilogram of feed) considering there are economic considerations.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of adding different levels of a domestically produced synbiotic to drinking water on production traits, carcass characteristics and the small intestinal microbial population of broiler chickens. Four hundred one-day-old Ross 308 broilers (a mixture of two sexes with equal proportion) were used in a completely randomized design with 4 treatments, 5 replicates, and of 20 birds per each replicate. Experimental treatments included adding levels: zero (control), 50, 100 and 150 g of synbiotic (Biopoul) per 1000 liters of drinking water. At 42 days of age, the addition of 50 or 100 g of synbiotic per 1000 liters of drinking water significantly decreased feed conversion ratio (P < 0.05). The increase of production index in the group receiving 100 g of Biopoul compared to the control showed a tendency (P = 0.08). Biopoul in the levels of 50, 100 and 150 g increased the total number of lactobacilli and decreased the number of yeasts and molds, coliforms and total gram-negative bacteria in the ileum compared to the control (P<0.05). According to the obtained results, the use of 100 g of synbiotic Biopoul per 1000 liters of drinking water of broiler chickens can improve the production index while helping to balance the small intestinal microbial population.

In this research the effect of Bioplus B2 probiotic and galactooligosaccharide prebiotic (GOS) on performance, egg quality, and some blood parameters of commercial laying hens were investigated in a sample of 216 hy-line laying hens (w36) with the same average weight aging 50 to 62 weeks for a period of 12 weeks in a completely randomized design with 6 treatments, 6 replications and 6 hens per each replication in the cage system. Experimental treatments included 1) without additives (as control), 2) diets containing 0.1% Bioplus B2 probiotic, 3) to 6) diets; containing, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15 and 0.20 % of galactooligosaccharides prebiotic, respectively. The results indicated that both egg weight and mass was increased significantly (P<0.05) in the Bioplus B2 probiotic treatment. Egg production percentage, feed intake and feed conversion ratio were not significantly influenced by treatments. Using galactooligosaccharide at the levels of 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2 percent improved dry eggshell weight significantly while the levels of 0.05, 0.15 and 0.2 percent increased eggshell weight per unit area compared to the control (P<0.05). Total protein and albumin of serum increased in the Bioplus B2 treatment (P<0.05). Using Bioplus B2 probiotic and 0.15% galactooligosaccharide significantly decreased blood cholesterol level (P<0.05). In general, the results showed that the using of prebiotic galactooligosaccharide at the level of 0.15 % increases the weight of eggshell per unit area, decreases the blood serum cholesterol, and improves some performance traits compared to control group, therefore it can be used instead of probiotic Bioplus B2.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of toxin binders and prebiotics on growth performance, intestinal microbial population, stress and antioxidant indexes of broiler chicks fed diets contaminated with aflatoxin B1. In this study, 600 1-d-old mixed broiler chicks (Ross 308) were investigated in 10 treatments with 6 replications and 10 chicks per replication. Experimental treatments included: Negative controls un-supplemented and supplemented with ASRI1 and ASRI2 toxin binders and prebiotic and positive groups un-supplemented and supplemented with ASRI1 and ASRI2 toxin binders and prebiotic, ASRI1 +prebiotic and ASRI2 +prebiotic. Growth performance, stress indexes of heterophile, lymphocyte, bacterial population and stress indexes of super oxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were investigated. Dietary inclusion of aflatoxin into diet increased heterophile, heterophile:lymphocyte ratio and decreased lymphocyte (P<0.05), but toxin binders and prebiotic alleviated effects of aflatoxin on heterophile and lymphpocyte. Thepopulation of E. coli and lactobacilli were significantly higher and lower in positive control compared to negative control (P < 0.05). The results also showed that the serum concentrations of antioxidant enzymes were significantly lower in negative control compared to positive control (P < 0.05). In sum, aflatoxin showed negative effects on growth performance, intestinal microbial populations, stress and antioxidant indexes but toxin binders and prebiotic decreased its negative effects and inclusion of ASRI1(3kg/ton) was better than other toxin binders.

This experiment carried out to determine the nutritional value of 18 sorghum forage varieties and to introduce superior cultivars using multicriteria decision-making technology. They sow in early June and harvested in mid-November. Random samples were taken from the center of each experimental plot in a way that ten plants were cut from 10 cm above soil. These samples were cut into 3 to 5 cm pieces, eachcultivar had three samples, in total 54 samples were collected. Yield and nutrient contents such as, crude protein, crude ash, ADF, NDF, water-soluble carbohydrates, starch and lignin measured in the experimental cultivars. The metabolizable energy of sorghum cultivars estimated by gas test method using the amount of gas produced in 24 hours and the amount of crude protein contained in it. Sorghumcultivars ranked based on 11 integrated traits. Among the domestic cultivars, Spidfeed ranked fifth among all varieties, followed by KFS-18 ranked seven and pegah ranked 10th and KFS-2 ranked 12th with moderate quantitative and qualitative performance. Overall, based on the results of the multi-criteria decision-making method, it was found that the top three sorghum cultivars are Siloking, FGCSI12 and PHFS-27, respectively, which are recommended for sorghum forage production and silage for dairy farmers.

This study was aimed to investigate the effect of adding dried dairy wastes to the starter diet on growth performance in Holstein dairy calves. A total of 28 female newborn Holstein dairy calves were randomly allocated to four groups (n=7/group) and after two weeks of habituation to experimental conditions and diet, in a completely randomized design, individually fed starter diets containing 0 (control), 10, 20, or 30% dried dairy waste up to eight weeks of age. Feed intake, weight gain, and feed efficiency (gained weight/consumed feed) were measured weekly, during the experimental period. Results showed that body weight, weight gain, feed intake, and feed efficiency were not affected by the treatments. Interactive effect of treatments by week showed that the highest weight gain was for calves fed by the diet containing 10% dairy waste or control group at first week. However, the highest gain was recorded for those that received 30% dairy waste at week five of the experiment (P<0.05). In conclusion, the results of the present study revealed that the inclusion of dried dairy products up to 30% of calves’ starter diet had no adverse effect on performance, and therefore can be used as an affordable and valuable nutritional by-product of the dairy industry in the nutrition of calves.

In order to determine effect of various sources of manganese, zinc and copper (Sulfate, foreign and Internal organic) and requirement levels (100, 50% requirement) on performance and immune response of broilers, an expriment was conducted using 480 commercial CAB 500 hybrid broilers in a 2×3 factorial arrangement with completely randomized design. During the experiment, live body weight (LBW), feed intake (FI) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were measured. At the end of the experiment, blood sampling was done and total antibody titer against sheep's red blood cell (SRBC), antibody titer against Newcastle Disease virus (ND) and differential count of white blood cells (WBC) were measured. The results showed that mineral sources did not affect the performance of broilers. The sources of minerals had a significant effect on livability percentage (P<0.05) and the highest livability was observed for organic (foreign and local) treatments. Usage of local organic manganese, zinc and copper caused a better response to sheep's red blood cell (SRBC) (P<0.05) relative to foreign form. Moreover, there was significant difference among the treatments in terms of weight (P<0.05), feed conversion (P<0.05) and production index (P<0.05) and treatment with 100% requirement level had maximum impact. The birds fed with 50 % requirement showed a better response to SRBC (P<0.05). According to the results of this experiment, the organic forms of the three manganese, zinc and copper produced in Iran can simultaneously, meet the needs of broilers and can be replaced with inorganic and the foreign sources. In addition, the 100 % requirement level of manganese, zinc and copper, regardless of source, is recommended to achieve the maximum growth performance and 50 % requirement level is recommended for better immune function.

The effects of two sources of organic zinc on performance and immune responses of broiler chickens were evaluated by using seven-hundred and fifty day-old Arian broiler chickens which randomly allocated in 30 experimental units in a completely randomized design as a 2×3 factorial with two sources of organic zinc (zinc- methionine and zinc- glycine) and three levels of dietary zinc (40, 80 and 120 mg/kg). During the experiment, live body weight (LBW), feed intake (FI) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were measured weekly. At the end of the experiment (age 42d) two birds from each replicate were bleed and total antibody titer against Sheep Red Blood Cell (SRBC), antibody titer against Newcastle Disease virus (ND) and differential count of white blood cells (WBC) were measured. Dietary inclusion of zinc-methionine improved LBW (day 42), FI (days 0-28) and FCR (days 0-14) in comparison with zinc- glycine (P<0.05), but did not influence on productive index and livability. Antibody titer against SRBC was higher when 80 mg/kg zincwas included in diet (P<0.05). Dietary inclusion of zinc-methionine improved performance of broiler chickens in comparison with zinc- glycine (P<0.05). Enhancement of some immune responses was observed by addition of 80 mg/kg organic zinc supplement to the diets. According to the results, using zinc-methionine improved broiler performance, so it should be suggested as a zinc source.

The aim of this experiment was to assess the effects of encapsulated oregano oil on microbial population, morphology, length and weight of different parts of digestive tract of Aryan broiler chicks. A total of 625 Arian broiler chicks were used in a completely randomized trail with 5 treatments and 5 replicates at the age of 1 to 42 days. Treatments were including: 1- basal diet (negative control), 2- basal diet+probiotic (0.1 g Protexin/kg), 3- basal diet+antibiotic (0.15g Avilamycin/kg), 4- basal diet+oregano oil (0.2 g/kg) and 5- basal diet+encapsulated oregano oil (1 g/kg). The results showed that broiler performance at the end of 42 days were not affected by treatments (p<0.05). The highest lactobacillillus colony numbers were observed in encapsulated oregano oil. The length of duodenum in probiotics group were lower than others groups (p<0.05). The length and weight of other parts of digestive tract except ileum weight were not affected by dietary treatments (p>0.05). Finally, according to result of intestinal microbial count, it seems that encapsulated oregano essential oil can improve the intestine microbial population and bird's health.

This study was conducted to rank the broiler farms based on buildings, installations and equipment and its effect on production factors. To determine the contribution of each factor in ranking of farms, a multi-criteria decision analysis (SAW) was used. Data of 108 broilers were recorded in specific forms and the amount of investment per broiler was calculated for individual factors. To calculate the adjusted weights of parameters, 20 experts were consulted as was specified in forms. The results showed that ventilation (fans and air inlets), roof and wall insulation in a poultry houses have represented about 55 percent of technological factors. The breeding units holding rank 1 and 2 enjoyed high degree of mechanization. As the level of mechanization was improved, the density of chickens per unit area was also increased; These units used more tunnel ventilation and large fans, and their ceiling were insulated using fiberglass, polystyrene, corrugated plastic and thickness of walls were also 35 cm. Mostly external heaters have been installed. Feeding and drinker systems have exerted no important effect on production. Slaughter weight and survival percent were not affected by the degree of mechanization but feed intake and feed conversion ratio decreased and production index increased (p<0.01) in the breeding units holding rank 1 and 2. In general in poultry house, ventilation system and ceiling and wall insulation improved energy efficiency and increased the efficiency of the system.

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of Humulus lupulus essential oils as an alternative to antibiotic and antioxidant on productive performance, lipids stability of meat and ileum microbial population in broiler chickens during days 1 to 42 of age. A total of 625 day-old Arian broiler chicks were used in a completely randomized design with five treatments (200 and 400 mg/kg Humulus lupulusessential oils, 100 mg/kg antibiotic avilamycin, 150 mg/kg protexin probiotic and control) and five replicates of 25 birds each. Broilers that were fed dietary Humulus lupulus oil at level of 400 mg/kg and antibiotic revealed higher feed intake than broilers fed dietary Humulus lupulusoil at level of 200 mg/kg (P<0.05). Dietary Humulus lupulus oil at level of 200 mg/kg and probiotic had best production index compared with Humulus lupulus oil at level of 400 mg/kg treatment (P<0.05). The Humulus lupulus oils (200 and 400 mg/kg) treatments showed lower thigh muscles malondialdehyde concentration compared with antibiotic and probiotic treatments as well as control group (P<0.01). Broilers were fed dietary 400 mg/kg Humulus lupulus oil had highest lactobacillus count of the ileum compared with other treatments (P<0.05). Dietary Humulus lupulus oil at level of 200 mg/kg improved broiler productive performance, however improvement of ileum microbial population and meat quality were observed when 400 mg/kg dietary Humulus lupulus oil was applied.

This study was conducted to evaluate the share of cost factors affecting on final cost of broiler live weight per kilogram in Tehran province. Data were collected through questionnaires. Farms were divided to three cost ranges: less than 35,000, between 35,000 to 40,000, and over 40000 Rails based on production cost per kg of live weight. In this study, water and additives, staff, vaccines, transportation, laboratory, chicks, feed, insurance, letter, personal cost and fuel were investigated.Share of cost-effective price per kilogram of broilers by using a multi-criteria decision analysis were determined. Performance parameters, including body weight and feed conversion ratio were not different among three groups (P>0.05). Water and additives, staff, vaccines and fuel were the factors that influenced the difference among the three groups, so they made a significant difference in final live weight cost. Insurance and feed had the lowest effects on final price. The group with over 40000 Rails cost for kg of live weight production had less productivity of cost factors. In conclusion, in order to reduce production costs in poultry farms should consider the entire costs factor. For example, the food and insurance costs are the highest and lowest total cost of production that had a minor role in the creation of a difference between different groups of broiler cost in this study.

Increasing of SID lysine levels increased body weight gain anddecreased feed conversion ratio. Dietary treatment of 1.6 percent SID lysine had the highest body weightgain and the lowest FCR compared to the basal diet (P<0.05). By using of broken line-linear ascending,quadratic polynomial and broken line- quadratic ascending models, SID lysine requirements for weightgain were 1.47±0.11, 1.57±0.04 and 1.49±0.05 and for FCR were 1.57±0.17, 1.61±0.02 and 1.59±0.08,respectively. In conclusion, SID lysine requirements for body weight gain ranged between 1.47 to 1.57and for FCR between 1.57 to 1.61 percent.
